Members of Parliament get acquainted with Balakhani Eco-Industrial Park

Members of Parliament were informed about the activities and projects implemented by “Tamiz Shahar” JSC during the visit organized by the Ministry of Economy. They visited Balakhani Material Recovery Facility and Baku Waste to Energy Plant. It was noted that BMRF with an annual capacity of 200 thousand tonnes was established to segregate municipal solid waste of Baku city and to improve the recycling business in the country.
Parliamentarians were informed that the Baku WtE plant has an annual capacity of 500 thousand tonnes in waste incineration and an annual capacity of 231 mln kWh in energy production. It is possible to cover the energy requirement of 300 thousand residents of Baku city with annually produced electricity in the plant.
Then the members of the Parliament visited Balakhani Eco-Industrial Park. With a 7 ha area Eco-Industrial Park is established for recycling solid municipal waste and for launching new businesses. Favorable conditions were created for potential entrepreneurs and investors who are interested in the recycling business. Currently, 5 tenants were registered in an industrial park, who are realizing recycling business related to used motor oils, PET bottles, cardboards, polyethylene products and furniture production. It is planned to invest more than 23.4 million manats by the tenants and to open more than 300 workplaces.
Regular negotiations are still held with potential tenants and “green business” projects are reviewed for realization.
All the questions of parliamentarians were answered and industrial projects were discussed. It was highlighted that industrial parks and industrial zones are of very importance in the sustainable development of the non-oil sector, in expanding entrepreneurial activities, in the development of small and medium entrepreneurs and in increasing employment in the industrial sphere.
Industrial parks with modern infrastructure and equipped with advanced techniques and technologies have a significant role in developing competitive and import-substituting production, increasing export capacity and involving investments and modern technologies.
